What to do if my card has been stolen or lost?

Reach out to them as soon as you realize that your cards have been stolen, lost or maybe misused. The earlier you tell them, the sooner they will be able to take action and protect your account.

You can inform HSBC via Online Banking. You just need to log on to Online Banking with your Secure Key and select the ‘report lost or stolen card’ option from the menu.

At first, you will be asked to block your card(s) temporary.

This will ensure that your card is safe and no one will be able to use it. The moment you block your card temporary, get back to ‘Report lost or Stolen Card’ within Online Banking to either unblock your card should you find it or report it stolen or lost and request a replacement.

Note; You can either block your card temporary or remove the temporary block in Online Banking at the moment. In simple words, you can’t apply or remove a temporary block in the Mobile Banking App, by telephone banking or by visiting a branch.

If you are not registered for Online Banking, you can make a call on the emergency phone at 0800- 085 -2401 from the UK or on +44 1442 422929 if you are overseas.

If you command a temporary block on your card, then your card will remain blocked until you remove the block via Online Banking. If you notify your card stolen or lost, they will cancel your card(s) immediately and issue you with replacement. Your new card will be delivered within 7 working days in the UK by post and within 10 days abroad.

How to replace a damaged or a cracked debit/credit card?

If your card is damaged and you are no longer able to use it, kindly Log On to Online Banking and choose ‘Order Replacement Card.’

In case, you are not registered for Online Banking; you can visit your local branch or connect online.

How should I activate my card?

When you receive your Debit Card, you are supposed to sign the back of your debit card and select the following options;

  • Via Online Banking
  • Log on to Online Banking
  • Choose the account you want to activate the card for.
  • Choose the option ‘Manage’ and then ‘Activate Card’ or follow the instructions

Make a transaction, such as cash withdrawal or balance enquiry and your new card will be activated automatically without any on-screen notification.

Note: You are not eligible to opt this option if it’s your first debit card from HSBC

Also, if you are having a Joint Account and own more than one card on the account, you will have to activate each card individually.

Credit Card

The moment you get your new credit card, sing the back and choose from the following ways to activate it;

  • Via Online Banking
  • Log on to Online Banking
  • Choose the account you want to activate the card for.

What to do if I need money but my card is blocked?

If your card is blocked and this temporary blocking is not done by you, then please go to your local HSBC branch with ID proof so that you can quickly withdraw your money. Also, discuss with bank authority on how to unblock your card.

But, if you have a card that was temporarily blocked via Online Banking, log on to remove this block and withdraw your money.

How to recover my Personal Internet Banking Password if I forget my password?

If you ever forget your Personal Internet Banking Password, you can always create a new one online. In the ‘Enter Your Password Tab’ click on the link below ‘forgotten password?”

To make it easy for them, you need to verify your identity so that you can create a new password. You need to answer one of your security questions along with entering a security code.

How to reset Digital Security Device Passcode?

Now, reset your passcode by launching the HSBC Mobile Banking App. Select the login button from the mobile home screen and from there click on the ‘Help’ in the upper right corner,  then “forgotten your Security Device Passcode.” Answer your security questions, select how you would want to receive a passcode reset code and follow the instructions to create a new one.

How to register for Personal Internet Banking?

There are 2 ways to sign up for Personal Internet Banking;

  1. Visit the Personal Internet Banking page and Click on ‘Sing Up’
  2. Download the HSBC Personal Internet Mobile Banking App. Choose log on and then ‘Not Registered.’

For Immediate Access

If you want immediate access to Personal Internet Banking, register with your security number or Tax ID, an existing HSBC ATM debit card or Credit card number and PIN associated with the card. This allows them to verify your identity.

Confirmation by Mail

This facility is not available on Mobile Internet Banking. If you don’t possess any HSBC ATM, Credit or Debit MasterCard, you can still register for personal Internet banking using another HSBC account for authentication, such as home equity, mortgage, savings, checking or loan account for authentication. You will get an Electronic Banking Number by email and a 6-digit code by postal mail or text message. After receiving both the date, you can now log on to Personal Internet Banking. You will be asked to create a new username and password if you log in for the very first time.

Where are my BIC and IBAN numbers?

If you want to accept an overseas payment into your HSBC UK account, you must provide the payee with the Branch Identifier Code (BIC) or International Bank Account Number (IBAN)

And, both are found at the top of a previous bank account statement. If you have the option of Online Banking, then you can log on and see your ‘statements’ within the ‘Manage’ page. Select to view a recent statement and the IBAN and BIC number will be shown just below your sort code and account number.

But, if you don’t have Online Banking Access, you can check your latest statements or visit your local branch office.

You are obtaining the same Online Banking service you do currently, so the level of security is well-maintained and unchanged.
